Real Estate Investment Society hosts development symposium


 

 

Developers, government leaders and real estate experts will address the dynamics of development and redevelopment in coastal areas at the 2019 Real Estate Symposium coming up Thursday, Sept. 19, at The Club at Grandezza in Estero. The event is presented by the Real Estate Investment Society in partnership with the Lutgert College of Business at FGCU, the Calusa Chapter of the Florida Planning & Zoning Association and the Promised Lands Chapter of the American Planning Association Florida.

FGCU President Michael Martin, REIS President Alexis Crespo and Shelton Weeks of the Lutgert College of Business will deliver introductory comments. Presentations will include:

Construction and Building in Coastal Areas, by Chris Kennedy, Suffolk vice president

Permitting and Regulatory Issues, by Chester Young, senior project manager at Hans Wilson & Associates

Floodplain Management and Flood Zone Mapping, by Elizabeth Fountain, vice president at J.R. Evans Engineering, P.A.

Sea Level Rise and Community Engagement, by Michael Sevarese, Ph.D., FGCU professor of marine science.

A panel discussion to bring local perspective on coastal development will be moderated by Sean Ellis and include panelists John Gucciardo of TPI Hospitality/ Margaritaville; Anthony Solomon, The Ronto Group; and Shawn McNulty, Lee County Department of Community Development, among others.

The morning beings at 8 a.m. with registration and continental breakfast, and the program is from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Admission is $35 for REIS, FPZA or ULI members, $50 for others (free for FGCU students) and includes snacks and refreshments. Seating is limited and reservations are required by Sept. 16 at www.reis-swfl.org. AICP credits are pending approval.
