Building a sense of community starts with something simple — getting to know your neighbors. That includes getting to know nearby businesses, too. Learning more about area businesses helps you know where to go when you need a car wash, a perfect fish sandwich, or even legal advice. If you’re looking to learn more about organizations in Lee, Collier or Charlotte Counties, check out SWFLinc.com/ Business-Directory.

Here are a few “neighbors to know.”

The Lee County Tax Collector is a great organization to be familiar with, especially this time of year. The tax collector herself, Noelle Branning, is doing a meet-and-greet event at The Hub at SWFL Inc. on April 22 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., answering basic tax questions and talking with area residents about where their tax dollars go. Come to the event, or get your questions answered online at leetc.com.

Looking to get involved with community service? Rotary Club of Bonita Beach Sunset is always looking for new members, and they help with supply drives, fundraisers and more. To attend one of their weekly meetings and learn more, visit bonitabeachsunsetrotary.com.

One “neighbor” you might already interact with every day is Fort Myers Broadcasting Company, or WINK News. What started as a radio station in 1939 grew to become Southwest Florida’s first local news station in 1954, catering to a population of 52,000 residents at the time. Today, Southwest Florida has an estimated population of 1.3 million people. winknews.com

Steinway Piano Gallery in Bonita Springs is one of those businesses you might drive by every day and not give a second thought to — but inside is a beautiful showroom with both new and used pianos, and a piano lesson studio. Owner Grant Billings is the third generation owner of a piano store. The family’s original store opened in Wisconsin in 1957. In 2011, the Billings family was named one of the nation’s Top 100 Music Dealers. steinwaynaples.com

In Naples, one local business to keep an eye out for is Wollman, Gehrke & Associates, P.A. Their team of attorneys has more than 90 years of combined experience in estate planning, and specialties include trust administration, asset protection and even art law. probate-florida.com
