In celebration of bluegrass American roots music, the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center presents the David Mayfield Parade, back for the third time, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28.

Described by The Boston Globe as “…a dynamic combination of music and comedy worthy of a traveling vaudeville act,” the band is led by Grammy- and Emmy-nominated producer David Mayfield on guitar, mandolin and vocals. He’s joined by two-time National Bluegrass Banjo Champion Steven Moore; Christine King, a former member of The Railsplitters, on fiddle and vocals; and Andrew Bonnis, a former member of Cadillac Sky, on bass and vocals. Together, they parade into town for a light-hearted, fun-filled night of harmony, hot licks, and laughs the whole family can enjoy.

Mr. Mayfield grew up playing bass and touring with his family’s bluegrass band. He established himself as a hot picker in his teens, collecting national awards for his dexterity on guitar and mandolin. His knack for colorful performances was evident as a backing player in his sister Jessica Lea Mayfield’s band including their appearance on “The Late Show with David Letterman.”

He added his bluegrass skills and entertaining personality to Cadillac Sky when the band played sold-out shows with British folk revivalists Mumford and Sons. He began writing songs after hearing artists like Randy Newman and Simon & Garfunkel. Encouraged by his sister and her friend Seth Avett, he started recording his original material and has been touring almost nonstop since 2010.

Doors at the SBDAC open at 6:30 p.m. and showtime is 7:30 p.m. General admission seating is $45 in advance, $50 at the door. The concert is underwritten by Pamela Templeton. To purchase tickets or for more information, call 239-333-1933 or go to www.sbdac.com. ¦
