First, it was a dream that was shared. Then, the community came together to make that dream a reality. With immense planning, donations and support, the YMCA Suwyn Early Learning Academy was born with the passion to provide excellent care to children from all financial backgrounds.

It started with just 18 children in August of 2020 and a drive to provide the best care and help children achieve their full potential emphasizing honesty, respect, trust and care. The YMCA Suwyn Early Learning Academy is now a home away from home for 110 children with a waitlist of 60 children.

“We saw a need in the community, so we stepped in to fill it,” said Angel Cerritos, Bonita Springs YMCA executive director. “We are blown away by how quickly we have grown and the continued support from the community so we can continue our goal to provide excellent childcare and educational opportunities for families from all financial backgrounds.”

The Suwyn Early Learning Academy provides children educational opportunities, so they become kindergarten ready by the time they graduate from the program. This is achieved through a robust curriculum and several enrichment opportunities that support learning and development for children from 6 weeks old to 5 years old.

The program is child-centered, and based upon the belief that children learn and achieve most through play. It is individualized to meet each child’s personal needs and interests and empowers children to develop at their own pace.

The classroom environments are specifically created to stimulate a child’s natural sense of curiosity and a desire to learn. Within each homelike classroom, there is an array of developmentally appropriate props and materials to nourish the child’s social, physical, and intellectual growth and development.

Through ongoing interaction, observation and assessment, teachers guide activities around the social and academic needs of each individual child, encouraging each child’s strengths and promoting growth in all areas of development while cultivating meaningful relationships.

The center is open from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and is available to all regardless of inability to pay. For those who have financial hardships, the Y offers scholarships so that all children can have the opportunity to receive early childhood education that builds a solid foundation for learning.

Children who have early childhood education are less likely to repeat a grade, less likely to be identified as having special needs and more likely to graduate high school and pursue higher education.
