FGCU anniversary celebrated with art walk

The Art Galleries of the Bower School of Music & the Arts and Florida Gulf Coast University Library present the 20th Anniversary Art Walk, featuring multiple exhibitions in several locations on the Florida Gulf Coast University campus, from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31.

The walk celebrates the 20th anniversary of the opening of the university.

The 20th Anniversary Art Walk will begin in the Wasmer Art Gallery with the 20/20: Art Alumni Exhibition with a curator talk at 5:40 p.m. The 20 artists chosen for the exhibition represent the range of ideas and techniques that the faculty and staff are proud to have been a part of shaping. This exhibition is sponsored in part by the Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture. It will run from Aug. 21 through Sept. 21.

At 6 p.m., attendees will be invited to the FGCU library for the opening reception of 20 Years: The Creation of FGCU, in the Archives & Special Collections Gallery. Featuring an exploration of the land development and structural growth of FGCU, several speakers will share their experiences, including founding President Roy McTarnaghan. The exhibition will run through Dec. 15.

The 20th Anniversary Art Walk will culminate with a reception and performance from 7-8 p.m. at the ArtLab Gallery, on the first floor of the library building, as part of the 20/20: Art Alumni Exhibition. In celebration of the generous donations made to the FGCU Art Galleries, selections from the FGCU Art Galleries’ Permanent Collection will be on display in the reference area on the first floor.

The Wasmer Art Gallery and ArtLab Gallery are open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Archives & Special Collections Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ¦
