City’s rating makes flood insurance savings possible

Bonita Springs residents who live in flood-prone areas are eligible to receive a 5 percent decrease on their insurance premium. The National Flood Insurance Program rates each city when it begins coverage and then reassess compliance every three years.

When Bonita incorporated, the city’s rating was at seven. Residents received a 15 percent discount at that time. In 2011, the city was rated at a six, which allowed residents to receive an additional 5 percent discount.

The Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency, has determined that Bonita Springs is now be eligible to move to Class 5 in the National Flood Insurance Program Community Rating System.

Thanks to Bonita Springs maintaining and improving standards, residents will now see an additional 5 percent decrease on their insurance premium. This classification will be effective for Bonita Springs for the next three years, unless a modification is submitted.
